Blue Moon Week-End Edition
Posted: September 1, 2012 at 9:26 am | Tags: Clint Eastwood, Jezebel, Marco Rubio, Mitt RomneyIt was a Blue Moon Friday here in Washington, DC. The Blue Moon rose around 6:30 pm last night and it was beautiful.
The RNC Convention concluded Thursday night with Romney accepting his party’s nomination in a grand speech .
Romney
A quick look at Buzzfeed which can be pretty negative towards anyone on the right shows that Mitt Romney’s acceptance speech played well across the country. For this blogger, the constant message of faith in God, the stories about Romney’s work for his church and the general message from the convention seemed to be right on target. This convention played a lot better on t.v. than the last one did in 2008, save for Sarah Palin’s moment. It seemed fitting that the focus was more on God this time as things have been so difficult in the country in stark contrast to the general cultural message of a focus on government as the overriding power during the last four years. I have no idea where that leaves the small atheist libertarian contingent in the party, but they always seem to make themselves happy anyways.
As for the Democrats take on the event, heck even Michael Moore made the joke that people should start to practice the words “President Romney.”
Clint Eastwood
Clint Eastwood’s routine with the “chair” for Obama has inspired countless internet memes. The most notable one was his statement “Politicians are employees of ours. You, me, we own this country. When somebody does not do the job, we gotta let them go.”
Oddly as a result of Clint Eastwood’s speech people keep running the meme of “Chairy” and it’s not actually an insult. Here is what this blogger means:
Works for me.
Rubio
Marco Rubio said in his speech “in the past your rights came from your leaders, we believe our rights are God given.” This statement was in line with the overall theme of the convention where he explained in detail during his speech that before the U.S was formed – people felt their rights came from their rulers.
He also referenced his own background and family’s struggles to get to the U.S. by saying that Obama’s ideas are actually the kind many people came to the U.S. to escape.
Jezebel
IF you never read the site Jezebel, this blogger would recommend it after reading the site for a year because it’s rather funny. Yes the site is super liberal at times because it is written by a number of outspoken and provocative women (jezebels, get it?) and can go over the top. But the site also happens to have a sneaky conservative slant that shows up at times because no site is really that provocative if it’s just written by a bunch of women working from DNC talking points. Case in point – the Jezebel article on RNC convention fashion. My guess is they have a small camp of libertarians over there who love Ron Paul and free markets.
Facebook Status
It appears some people are just tired of the political stuff on Facebook since it is a very tense election year.
For Fun
This blog site “Face in the Blue” has done a post on which president would win a knife fight. Just for laughs.
That’s all, have a good week-end.
