Friday Fry Up

Happy Friday Fry Up! The site has just been jamming along with higher and higher numbers of visitors again.

This week Rick Perry nicely exited the GOP presidential race while Newt Gingrich stayed in it with a bang. If that’s possible. Newt’s ex-wife Marianne unleashed a series of  media interviews on the end of their marriage and Newt’s decision to divorce her. Basically, she made a point that everyone knew he had Calista while he was still married to her. It was a rather painful ABC interview to watch. Afterwards, the public was left with a reminder of what everyone already knew from the 90′s or apparently some people forgot. Worse, many people in town just seem to be debating endlessly about it.

(Everyone knows sooner or later this issue, the issue of his ex wives and marital choices was going to come to the front.)

One friend pointed out this Mr. Gingrich’s book “To Renew America” starts with the dedication “To Marianne, who made it all worthwhile.” Oh, it is moments like that where this blogger hates being an adult! One could suppose she is bitter or thinks the public needs a reminder of the past. But, the question which struck this writer is: why this year? Why THIS race?

The end of that marriage happened in the 1990′s. Why did Marianne do this during the race of 2012?

As for Rick Perry, he seemed like a great contender until he started the debates. Apparently, many people in town suspected he would falter, but apparently many more did not think he would actually fall out of the race as he did in the end. Still, one has got to love the shot of him telling Ron Paul to behave after one of the debates.

Farewell Etta James

The singer whose music inspired people and gave everyone a song to dance to at their wedding  - “At Last” – has passed on to a better place. Of course, this writer gets a humorous twinge what if someone used that song “At Last” for their 2nd, 3rd or fourth wedding party. Don’t think it hasn’t happened!

XL Pipeline

The Keystone XL pipeline project died this week. Obama rejected the project and blamed Republicans, ooookay, for his decision. The pipeline would have created 20,000 jobs. (sigh). Really? Really? We need jobs in the U.S., we need to use our natural resources, the pipeline didn’t even go through any densely populated areas. It’s a pipeline, not an oil tanker in the ocean.

And now the oil is going to ASIA.

Music

This blogger is going to give Lana Del Rey another chance. She didn’t have the greatest performance on Saturday Night Live. But she creates good music, very high quality music compared to general pop. She legitimately came off like someone who just needed more practice performing live music. And it should be noted that she basically performs aerial gymnastics with her voice. Of course after Mariah Carey and Florence (of Florence and the Machine), those types of stunts are not appreciated much by audiences anymore. Brian Williams of NBC’s critique of her performance was a  little too negative. SNL tends to get people when they are on their way up or just starting out.

Local Culture

This short film making light of DC culture is pretty much on point and really funny.  It’s called “Sh*t DC People Say.” The video came to me through Christine Hall of CEI. Factually, this blogger is pretty sure she has heard people make the almost exact same comments as the ones in the film short.

And there is this video for Republicans and conservatives from MRC, it does strike a point as well. And yes, the comments are also ones this writer has heard. Would it be too optimistic for this writer to think

And Finally

This blogger has mixed feelings about the new Underworld: Awakening with Kate Beckinsale. The first two films were passable, the second was better than the first. But this blogger just has a hard time imagining that the plot of the third will be that great. Who knows?

That’s all have a great week-end!
